Laufey has done it again. Her third studio album, A Matter of Time, was released on August 22nd. This album beautifully blends musical elements from 60s jazz with modern influences. Most of the tracks were produced by Spencer Stewart and Aaron Dessner. The songs range from joyful love ballads like "Lover Girl" and "Castle in Hollywood" to vengeful tracks such as "Tough Luck," "A Cautionary Tale," and "Clean Air." The album captures a wide spectrum of emotions, offering something relatable for everyone. Most notably, "Snow White" explores the everyday struggles of women and girls in society, capturing the feeling of never being enough.

The emotion and thought behind this album are incredible. Every detail from the music videos and Instagram posts to the photoshoots, was carefully considered. Laufey's creative team, led by her twin sister Junia, worked hard to bring her vision to life. They successfully incorporated vintage aesthetics into a modern context, bridging generational gaps through art. This year also marked the third annual A Very Laufey Day, a celebration where fans around the world visit local shops and stores to honor her music. Usually held in September to commemorate the release of Bewitched, this year's event took place on August 24th, just days after the new album dropped. Laufey ended the day with a performance in a downtown Los Angeles park.

I had the honor of celebrating the album's release with Laufey herself at YouTube Music Nights on August 22nd at The Troubadour in Hollywood. In such an intimate venue, it was incredible to see Laufey up close. She performed most of the new album, including "Seems Like Old Times," a jazz standard by Carmen Lombardo and John Jacob Loeb. This track will later appear on the deluxe edition of the album and inside the vinyl sleeve. While the album feels like it was made for smaller, cozy venues, it's sure to be an incredible performance during her upcoming arena tour this autumn. She ended the night with a powerful performance of "Sabotage," complete with a dramatic and pitiful cello smash. It was a once in a lifetime intimate experience.

A Matter of Time is a stunning fusion of musical eras and genres. In this beautifully written album, everyone can find a song that resonates with them. If you have the chance to see Laufey live, especially with special guest Suki Waterhouse during The Matter of Time Tour, don't miss it. Laufey is an extraordinary performer who is deeply involved in every artistic detail of her work. In an interview, she mentioned that she designs songs specifically to perform. Both Laufey and Suki bring their music to life through thoughtful, full scale performances. Seeing them share the stage is something that should be on everyone's concert bucket list.
