Lorde's vocals are as captivating as ever, with unique and raw lines boasting both vulnerability and confidence. The production choices create an atmosphere that's dreamy yet unsettling, tying in with the confusion and longing present throughout the lyrics. Overall, "What Was That" is an impressive and captivating step into Lorde's new era, and I, among many others, cannot wait to hear more.
