Youthoric Interview

10/30/2025

Conducted by Rachel S, Jonathan V, and Bethany M

We are Youthoric, we are an indie band based in Los Angeles. We play all types of genres and play at all types of shows. We are in a record label, a student run record label over at Hamilton High School. It's called Make Waves. We just play with all types of genres. We're very experimental, but very traditional at the same time. So I know we're just four people trying to, you know, play stuff for the world.

What inspired you guys to first form a band?

It originally started with me because I'm the lead singer. I was always into music. And I knew this guitarist who happens to be my best friend. And we started playing music together. It was great. We needed another two musicians, the bassist and the drummer. And at Hamilton, we found a bassist and a drummer who were also two best friends. So we kind of just merged into one. It's a form of expression to like to make music together.

What is one thing you have learned about yourself while in the band?

I definitely learned how to communicate with others. Like when it comes to actually conducting a band and trying to get your creative ideas out there with other people who are also on the same level playing field as you, it initially starts as really difficult. But just practice communication with your band, just practice all those types of things. You all come out with a 25-25-25-25 type of project, and it comes out amazing. Just communicating with people and working together with other people is what the band has shown me overall.

Have you guys had any internal problems, and how were you able to overcome that together?

We've definitely had a lot of issues. It's just, like, it's also just, like, external issues. For example, someone will have a family problem outside, and that causes, like, conflict between the band, because what if we have something scheduled, but one of us can't make it? Then it just starts kind of like resentment. But once again, it's like If you're doing bad, we're all doing bad. As long as you communicate why you're doing bad and how we can work around that type of stuff. I mean, it always works out in the end.

If you had one thing to let new bands know, what would it be?

Whoever's the lead just has to understand your band members as much as possible. In addition, communicate with your band members as much as possible and really understand what everyone else wants to get out of what they are doing. Someone may want to you know like just have a you know fun band for high school whilst the lead may want to do this for the rest of their lives so as long as you're like all on the same wavelength it'll work out properly.

What is your personal favorite part of being in a band?

I may have my own ideas, but I watch them continuously change as we begin to work on a song. So we have a song out named "Everything." Pretty good song. It originally started off as a Alex G type of deal and ended off as like a Billie Eilish song, because the song progresses, it goes through its different stages, all because my band members decided we should change this. We should add this. We should change this section here. We should change the time signature. So it's more of like a teamwork thing than just like, ok, I'm going to make a song and it's going to sound like this because I feel like it should sound like this.

What is one future goal or aspirations your band has for the next few years ahead?

You know at least hit at least hit like 5k streams on whatever platform. It's really hard. The music industry is a super difficult thing to work in like marketing is extremely difficult. All those things are really difficult so at least like 5,000 streams on a specific song would be nice. If we can strive further, at least a quick tour around the city or something of this sort would be very nice.
