You Seem Pretty Sad For a Girl So In Love

Olivia Rodrigo never misses, but you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love is her biggest hit yet. The 23-year-old from California has always been mega talented and had arguably one of the best debuts ever, but she had truly outdone herself with her newest album. Rodrigo had always been incredibly insightful, pulling people toward her music with her perfectly melancholy, messy music. She has especially reached the hearts of young women who find her music to be comforting. I think we all see a little bit of ourselves in Olivia. I know, at least for me, it provides a huge amount of relief knowing that someone I look up to so much, as many others do, feels the same way I do. From completely in love, to angry, to jealous, to insecure, to sad, Olivia has always expressed her emotions in a way that makes her audience feel validated and accepted.

Her debut album, Sour, was impressively cohesive, the entire vibe of the album completely on theme with the point in time and current aesthetic. Similarly, this new album, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, is entirely cohesive while expressing her feelings and message out in every possible way. Every single thing she felt was evident in the songs. The album did what her projects usually do, going from happy to sad. This one felt different. Powerful. An impressive storytelling of a love as tragic as Romeo and Juliet. It's almost hard to believe it wasn't a concept album, or it would be if it weren't so raw. Olivia makes it okay for people not to be stoic in their heartbreak, but to be a little melodramatic. Not in a bad way, in a way that every heartbroken girl can relate to. The neurosis of constantly thinking about the person who broke your heart, the unrestrained emotion you feel when the person you love goes away, and the wistfulness of getting over them are all things recognized and made to feel sound by Olivia in this album. It seems perfect for any kind of listener, a sad one, an angry one, a listener who's finally getting over it, or even a listener looking for a pick-me-up, will be met with a song perfect for them. If you haven't already, I 100% recommend taking a listen to Rodrigo's you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love.
